VLC believed it is the latest version, but I had only audio, no video on FC 25. VLC was actually at version 3.0.0-0.28.git20170622.fc25 (I needed 3.0.0-0.29.git20170622.fc25) until I ran:

sudo dnf install vlc vlc-core --best --allowerasing

This apparently re-installed and upgraded the version I had installed. After running this command, VLC works properly again.

it's on the sec lists for those who know where to look, but posting links is a little frowned on right now because the vulnerability will only be announced when most hosts have had time to patch.

Because git is a well maintained package, I don't think I'm the right person to roll an update (I did try, but it's not trivial). I'm sure the maintainers are on the case. But the dummy package might tide me over till that happens.

That looked promising for a minute but doesn't seem to work for dependencies. At a guess, it's for excluding parts of meta-packages.

2016-03-26 06:53:54 -0500 Perguntou How to handle locally updated Git binary

Because of recent git vulnerability issues, I removed the git package from my Fedora 23 instances with sudo dnf erase -y git and added exclude=git to /etc/dnf/dnf.conf. Since I still need git in my workflow, I installed it from source like so:

sudo dnf install -y curl-devel expat-devel gettext-devel openssl-devel perl-devel zlib-devel asciidoc xmlto docbook2X
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/db2x_docbook2texi /usr/bin/docbook2x-texi
wget https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-2.7.4.tar.gz
wget https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-2.7.4.tar.sign
gpg2 --keyserver gpg.mozilla.org --recv-keys 96AFE6CB
gunzip git-2.7.4.tar.gz
gpg2 --verify git-2.7.4.tar.sign git-2.7.4.tar
tar -zxvf git-2.7.4.tar.gz && cd git-2.7.4
make configure
./configure --prefix=/usr
make all doc info
sudo make install install-doc install-html install-info

However, I use some packages that rely on git (pass). Since I no longer have the maintained package for git installed, these packages will refuse to install.

Is there a way to fool DNF into believing a package is installed when it isn't? Or another nice way of handling this?

+1 Thank you! Running the 2 modem manager commands in this answer worked for me on FC22. Don't you just love it when the solution is so simple and you don't have to go and recompile your kernel?

I have adapted an installation script for sublime text, to work for Firefox Developer edition.

The script is here: https://gist.github.com/grenade/3b3c5...

You can run it like so:

curl -L http://git.io/firefoxdev | sh

It will handle updates (detects the latest developer edition), locale (using your $LANG environment variable) and architecture (only tested on a 64 bit, Fedora 22 system, feedback welcome).

Disclaimer: Although I work for Mozilla, this install script was created as a personal project and to support my own frequent updates to Developer Edition. It isn't to be construed as an endorsed update mechanism.

2015-05-30 12:29:28 -0500 Respondeu uma pergunta How do I change font size in GNOME?

In Fedora 22 the default text-scaling-factor is set to 1.0. You can modify this value from the terminal.

  • to increase (double) the font size:

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 2.0

  • to decrease (half) the font size:

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 0.5

  • to check the current text-scaling-factor:

    gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor

  • to set the font and size of specific components:

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface monospace-font-name "Monospace 10"

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface document-font-name 'Sans 10'

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface font-name 'Cantarell 10'

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences titlebar-font 'Cantarell Bold 10'

2015-05-30 12:19:44 -0500 Respondeu uma pergunta How do I reduce the size of everything in my display

I found some kind of solution, it's not perfect but, it's closer to what I am used to and need (run these in the terminal):

# Reduce font sizes (adjust "0.6" to some value that suits you. eg: 2.0 = twice the size, 0.5 = half the size)
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 0.6

# Reduce Title Bar heights (takes effect after session restart/logout,login)
cat > ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css <<EOF
.header-bar.default-decoration {
  padding-top: 0;
  padding-bottom: 0;
}
GtkButton {
  padding-top: 0;
  padding-bottom: 0;
  margin-top: 0;
  margin-bottom: 0;
}
>EOF

Additionally, I tweaked my browser with the instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/... . I kept some other notes here: https://gist.github.com/grenade/6363978

2015-05-30 11:32:55 -0500 Resposta comentada How do I reduce the size of everything in my display

I'm using Gnome (a default install of Fedora 22 from the LiveCD).

2015-05-30 04:09:44 -0500 Perguntou How do I reduce the size of everything in my display

My system has a display resolution of 2560 x 1440. On Windows, if I want bigger fonts, I just select a lower display resolution. On Fedora 22, everything is already big with the highest resolution. I prefer to use the screen real estate differently. I want everything (fonts, window borders, icons in the task bars, etc) to be much smaller. How do I make this work?

2013-05-13 02:54:49 -0500 Perguntou Fedora, Gnome, network proxy (all users)

I have created a Vagrant box image containing Fedora 18 to be used inside our corporate environment. When new users grab and boot their new image, we do lots of automation like, creating their user accounts and synchronising framework tools on their VM filesystem.

We want to also set the network proxy settings automatically, and so far I have only discovered the GUI mechanism (Applications > System Tools > System Settings > Network > Network proxy).

We use the Automatic method with a Configuration URL pointing to an HTTP hosted pac file. This works well enough when set manually, but I would like to add this configuration step to the automatic image bootstrap script.

Is there a command line mechanism or configuration file I can edit which will populate this system setting?
