2013-09-08 09:05:00 -0500 commented question Why is Anaconda not present when there is a anaconda.cfg file present ?

@jamielinux: thanks I have not seen *.el6.noarch but I'm on RHEL 6.4 and have said file and anaconda is on my system. That's why I'm puzzled why it is not at OP's system.

2013-09-08 06:55:36 -0500 commented question Why is Anaconda not present when there is a anaconda.cfg file present ?

Could you please let us know which release of Fedora are you using?? you can also enter: which anaconda and it should show: /usr/sbin/anaconda (https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/anaconda) - it is in every Fedora installation.

2013-09-08 06:44:09 -0500 commented answer How to install cmake ?

Ok I have checked and it seems that museek+ was in Fedora 9 and the offered source package is from 2009 and therefore I think I do not know whether you are able to compile it on a modern platform like Fedora 19 - in museek+ INSTALL file are mentioned the various requirements to compile it and I think it is easier to try to compile the package with system provided packages and tools as otherwise you risk to trash your system and maybe it is to much work and it is better to use an alternative which is already packaged for Fedora.

2013-09-07 12:38:00 -0500 answered a question Epson scanner

Have you already downloaded the printer driver for Linux?? You can download them here: http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModule and enter your stylus tx210 in the search field and you should get a result for three files. The third one is for network printing and I do not know whether you are do networking printing but for a home user you need to download the first two files and install them via: rpm -i (do not plug in you scanner - do it afterwards after installing both files). Choose a scan application and test and if there are any problems come back :-) - HTH

Maybe you should check this site but I'm not sure whether it works as your VMware version is quite old (https://communities.vmware.com/thread/453520?start=0) - another suggesting is to try KVM.

2013-09-06 10:48:27 -0500 commented answer Fedora installation on AMD

@shaiton: that's an good idea

2013-09-06 08:21:01 -0500 commented answer Fedora installation on AMD

Well 64-bit Intel-compatible PC means AMD but I agree that people which are not very interested in computer details can have a problem to decide what is the right download choice for them. Maybe 64-bit Intel-compatible (AMD) PC is better and I have checked major distributions and they are mentioning following details: Ubuntu 32-bit, 64-bit flavor, opensuse: 32 bit PC, 64 bit PC.

2013-09-06 04:16:32 -0500 answered a question Home Network for 2 Fedora 19 computers

I do not know how much data you have to transfer between your both installations but another way is to use ssh and copy the files via scp/sshfs. You have to enable in your firewall settings ssh (disabling the firewalls is always bad) and afterwards you can copy the directories/files and you can tunnel rsync(rsync is a great way to stay in sync) over ssh (maybe this is useful for you too: http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/09/rsync-command-examples/). With ssh/rsync I keep hundreds of GB's in sync and it works great. Grsync is a GUI for rsync if rsync is to complicated for you. -HTH

2013-09-05 14:21:25 -0500 answered a question error with cmake gsl, fedora-15

Have you installed gsl via yum or downloaded and compiled it - the problem is that I dig somehow in the dark as you have posted not much information. Fedora 15 is EOL and for scientific number crunching I suggest you to use CentOS or Scientific Linux as most people use this distributions. However are you able to compile your application via: g++ pkg-config --libs --cflags gsl test.cpp and another try is: http://log.guidoderosa.net/2009/05/gsl-and-cmake.html but as I wrote I dig at the moment in the dust.

2013-09-03 13:51:52 -0500 commented answer Routing Audio from Fedora to Bluetooth Audio Receiver

Great that you found the missing packages but my question is somehow OT: which Fedora 19 image to you use?? Gnome Live, DVD as I think maybe it is good to include above mentioned packages in the default images.

2013-09-03 13:35:12 -0500 commented question antivirus.

I think you compare Linux vs Windows - I agree that surfing without an internet security suite under windows is dangerous but Fedora comes out of the box with an enabled firewall. Antivirus suites for Linux are available but as there are few Linux malware and other bad apps you are wasting your money but if you send/receive files to Windows users it is good to scan the files in case they send you something infected so that you can inform them accordingly. A free and open source scanner is clamav. -HTH

2013-09-02 10:59:02 -0500 answered a question How to install cmake ?

Is there any special reason why you want to compile said application as it is already in the Fedora repos as I have checked mentioned homepage: http://www.museek-plus.org/wiki/MuseekOnFedora

To install cmake I would suggest to do this via: yum install cmake but you will also need all development tools and libraries and as a beginner I recommend you that you should install it via Fedora's repo. -HTH

2013-08-30 04:15:05 -0500 commented question kernel compilation error during make modules_install

to compile a kernel 2.6 you have to do following steps: configure your kernel, make (builts the kernel), make modules (builts the kernel modules), make modules_install (install the built modules), make install (installs the built kernel) and as last step you have to create the initrd image cd /boot mkinitrd -o initrd.img-2.6.34 2.6.34

Interesting question and it is already answered at stackoverflow here is the link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1823743/knowing-a-device-special-file-major-and-minor-numbers-in-linux and study the first answer which contains all information. You can install it via:

sudo yum install @mate (in a terminal / Gnome terminal)

and log out and choose in GDM: MATE

as MATE as a Gnome2 fork you configure it like you have maybe done it with Gnome 2.

2013-08-25 12:57:34 -0500 answered a question How to enable NFS for a DVD drive?

If I understand you question correct your brothers box is running Windows 7 and you have installed fedora or any other linux distribution and I do not think that a gamer have installed Client Services for NFS on Windows therefore I assume NFS is not available on your brothers Windows box (only if you have installed previous mentioned Microsoft software). However you can access the drive via smbmount and you have to share the Windows 7 box drive (right click and share) and change permissions accordingly. However in case Client Services for NFS on Windows is installed:

mount [options] //nfs-server-unc-name/share-name [drive letter]
