2019-04-27 12:56:55 -0500 marked best answer Black Install screen on Lenovo P72 Nvdia P2000 graphics card

I am trying to install Fedora 29 on a Lenovo P72 with a nvdia P2000 graphics card.

This machine is "Red Hat" certified, so I had hoped everything would work out of the box.

'Hope' is a four letter word.

I tried the straight install and it stopped dead on Gnome Manager.

I tried to load in Basic Graphics mode 'nomodeset', and after all the text goes away, I get a black screen. Nothing.

I tried nouveau.nomodeset=0. Black Screen.

I entered 3 at the end of the line and I got an login screen. It's a fresh install, so what is the username and password? I tried admin/admin and it failed.

I have turned OFF Secure Boot.

Any advice is appreciated.

I am reading my, and many other posts, about Fedora 29 not installing, people getting black screens, etc... and no answers for any of them.

I've successfully installed previous versions using basic graphics mode, 'nomodeset', etc... with minimal issues and even then, the AskFedora community was great.

Now, trying to install Fedora 29 and I am getting nowhere... startx fails. Nothing seems to work.

Is there a better venue to ask for help, or maybe is Fedora done now that another organization has purchased another organization?

Please advise.

2018-05-15 05:41:32 -0500 marked best answer fingerprint reader for Dell XPS 15 9650

I have a Dell XPS 15 9650.

Installed Fedora 27 (working fine, thankyouverymuch).

The unit has a fingerprint reader, but I don't see where in GNOME I enroll my fingers.

When I tested to see if I had fprint installed, and it seems I do.

$ grep fprint /etc/pam.d/*
/etc/pam.d/fingerprint-auth:auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so
/etc/pam.d/fingerprint-auth-ac:auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so
/etc/pam.d/system-auth:auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so
/etc/pam.d/system-auth-ac:auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so

I have read the wikipage and looked in a few different places, but no dice.

Thank you in advance.
