Hi, thanks for your help. It was excluded in /etc/dnf.conf. It's unfortunate the dnf output gave no indication of this (and that I didn't immediately recognize this, lol)

2018-02-17 15:24:44 -0500 asked a question Installing VLC from rpmfusion fails with "not found"

Hi, I'm using fedora27 and have the rpmfusion repos installed:

$ ls -l *rpmfusion*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1248 Nov 13 13:17 rpmfusion-free.repo
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1245 Nov 13 13:17 rpmfusion-free-updates.repo
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1305 Nov 13 13:17 rpmfusion-free-updates-testing.repo
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1293 Nov 13 13:21 rpmfusion-nonfree.repo
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1290 Nov 13 13:21 rpmfusion-nonfree-updates.repo
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1350 Nov 13 13:21 rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing.repo

However, installing or even searching for vlc fails:

# dnf search vlc

I've had to install it manually by downloading the RPMs directly from the website. Why wouldn't dnf be able to find vlc?

2018-02-17 11:53:08 -0500 asked a question How to change default player for video stream

Hi, I'm using vlc for the default video application, but I believe it has a problem with my HD HomeRun tuner application for streaming video. I'd like to change it to use mplayer or totem or another application, but can't figure out how.

The most recent guides and posts online are from at least 2014 which no longer apply. I've checked "Default Applications" from within "Settings" and it is set to "Videos" but nothing happens when I attempt to play a stream using the HD HomeRun application. When VLC was the default, it played, but there was significant drop-out. "Videos" is selected as the default application for video files like mpeg and mkv, but I don't know if that's the case with streaming video.

I'm using fedora27 with X11 started with startx. I believe I'm using gnome.

I've done that, and dnf then just reports "nothing to do." so I guess the current version from rpmfusion-free-updates is the latest and has the same problems as the 3.0 available with fedora25.

2017-03-05 09:43:28 -0500 commented question Broken dependencies with rpmfusion-free-rawhide

I thought it would be possible to pull in the most updated vlc-core and associated packages from rawhide without having to upgrade all packages.

Is it possible the latest versions of vlc-core and associated packages have been backported to work with fedora25?

Hi, I've been having problems with vlc streaming video from my HDHomeRun tuner for a while, so thought I would try and install the latest version of vlc-core on my fedora25 x86_64 desktop install. There appears to be broken dependencies, but it doesn't explain what they are or what I need to do to resolve them.

I'm seeing the following dependency errors:

What is the procedure to install vlc from rpmfusion? Here is the output from a "dnf update". It knows there's a vlc-core update available, but it is skipped.
