2016-09-02 03:34:32 -0500 commented question Samba Sharing Fedora 24

What are your permissions for /home/sdc1 and /home/sdc1/back ? Seems to me like linux permissions are not set correctly. It's the same as in Windows you have permissions on share level and on filesystem level.

Check "firewall-cmd --add-service=samba" in terminal and test again. That change would be temporary only. To make it stick add "--permanent" to it.

I have an old X301 myself and touchpad works out of the box. Never tested fingerprint reader though.

Fedora doesn't have all multimedia codecs included (especially non-free ones). You can add RPMFusion repositories and/or use Fedy

RPMFusion repos:

su -c 'dnf install$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

bash -c 'su -c "curl -o fedy-installer && chmod +x fedy-installer && ./fedy-installer"'

While the driver brcmfmac is in the kernel it needs a corresponding firmware file brcmfmac4350-pcie.bin in /usr/lib/firmware/brcm/.

dnf install linux-firmware

If it's RPi and whole system is on SD card (4/8GB?) just dd it to file on USB disk or over a network.

I woudl look into share configuration on your Windows 7 box. Especially that I don't see any user information in your command.

2016-04-21 05:10:16 -0500 commented answer LCD screen cannot display full screen

I'm sorry but don't understand your point. How do you want to view 4:3 resolution on 16:9 full screen? The only option would be to stretch the image which won't look good. If you just want bigger images/fonts you can change font and icon sizes or just use smaller 16:9 resolution instead of FullHD (i.e. 1280×720, 1366×768, 1600×900)

2016-04-19 08:25:40 -0500 answered a question [Request] Modern Guide for KVM/QEMU/PCI pass-through

As far as I can see all CPUs that are supported by X99 chipset support IOMMU (VT-d) but I don't have live fedora system at hand to check Fedora's 23 kernel does it have IOMMU support turned on by default so you may need to recompile your kernel (check with dmesg | grep -e DMAR -e IOMMU).

Anyway, great guide is provided by KVM themselves: How to assign devices with VT-d in KVM

2016-04-15 07:26:41 -0500 commented answer What is and how to use Docker on Fedora?

The thing is that it's not that useful for non-professional people. I'm working with virtualization few years now and somehow I don't see "normal" userspackaging the apps in AppV (Windows) when they can just install it. While, IMHO, Linux people are more tinker friendly, I still don't see Docker hitting masses. It makes things like delivering apps and managing dependencies a lot easier but you need to have bigger machine/user base (than 5 machines at home) for it to make it worthwhile (time for managing/learning) to look at, unless you just want to play with it just because you want to.

So, what is Docker?

How to implement a Docker solution on a Fedora system?

What can I do with Docker on Fedora? If you read and understand what it is then you will know what to do with it.
