2016-10-15 11:55:49 -0500 asked a question help can't login into kde/plasma which has worked before

Hi,

I am running Fedora 23 with Gnome and the Plasma environment. Mostly I use Gnome but when I wanted to log in with plasma it failed. Both with gdm and kdm the plasma session just does not start. the screen flases black and I am back in gdm/kdm. I have already tried

a) deleting .cache
b) using a diffrent user
c) reinstalling kde with sudo dnf remove|install @kde-desktop-environment

UPDATE: I found a way to debug the start of kde. First shut down X-Server ($ init 3) and then execute

$startx /usr/bin/startkde

to see whats going on. Alternatively you can have a look into the Xorg log:

more /var/log/Xorg.*.log

By doing that I figured that the xcb module could not be found wich I fixed thanks to this post: https://joscor.com/blog/fedora-24-fix...

How Kde sort of starts but shows the error message:

All shell packages missing. This is an installtion issue, please contact your distribution

to solve that I tried:

sudo dnf install qt5*

with no effect.

It feels like Fedora missed to execute post installation skripts. For Example after removing and reinstalling kde the /usr/share/xsessions/plasma.desktop does not get rewritten.

Can you plese help me to be able to use plasma again?

Thanks!

2016-08-29 09:22:06 -0500 asked a question mount truecrypt volumes using system encryption passphrase

Hi,

from a previous windows setup I have two truecrypt encrypted harddrives. I can mount these without any problem during my fedora session with:

sudo /sbin/cryptsetup open --type tcrypt /dev/sdb2 stuff sudo /sbin/cryptsetup open --type tcrypt /dev/sdb2 otherstuff

I have automated this process with the help of [1]. However, this is stil a bit tedious as I have to type the same passphrase is a bit long and I have to type it twice. I could just write a script storing my passphrase but this would be a vulnerability as the script can be read by anyone. I thought about storing the passphrase in the keyring, but I prefer not to save the passphrase on the pc. Additionally I have no Idea how to do this because I only found an incomplete tutorial for arch linux[2].

Since I use the same passphrase for the truecrypt drives as I do for the system drive, I wonder if I can mount these during startup with the passphrase to unlock the system partition. I am new to Fedora any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I am also new and have the same Matlab problem with fedora 23. Thanks for your answer, but I don't quite understand it. Will this enable me to have both gcc-5.3 and gcc-4.7 at the same time? Sorry for being noob.
