Thanks for the response, sideburns. I've edited the post. I do understand the reason(s) why it can be considered advantageous, but there are plenty of usage scenarios where it's unnecessary and, as I'd originally remarked, distracting.

I'm a linux newbie using Fedora 23. My laptop's wi-fi lights (two hardware LEDs on Compaq 8510p) are flashing constantly during data transmission. I find it quite distracting. "Putting tape" over them is inelegant. I was hoping to find an answer in the Fedora forums, but wasn't able to turn anything up.

It's disappointing this default behavior doesn't have a quick toggle to disable the flashing and just have the light steady illuminated for "wi-fi on" and non-illuminated for "wi-fi off".
