2016-03-06 09:13:25 -0600 commented question and the sharp simbol as a custom key

I'm using the English(UK) keyboard layout and it is a bit different from the English(United states) one. For example there some symbols witch are missing or i just don't know how to pop them out when i'm typing. I found the sharp symbol on my keyboard, but there are other that i wish to have. So in generously i mean just like there key combinations(like the shift+alt for language switch) for some futures in the OS, exactly the same way to add custom short key combinations for thouse symbols. I was asking cause Fedora Linux might have this option but i just don't know about that. Thx for reply

Thx alot for the reply, i created a folder as you instructed and i try to tar the install_linux file as you said but nothing happened. I noticed it is a shell script, so i chmod +x the file and then executed it with ./ . It promted a message - Note: If failed to connect xserver, please try running "Linux\Install" again. grep: /etc/datacard_config: No such file or directory grep: /etc/datacard_config: No such file or directory Begin verify CD... The SysConfig.dat file don't exsit! Press any key to exit.

2016-02-07 02:06:40 -0600 asked a question Mobile internet on fedora 20

Hello there,

I'm in a accommodation with my girl friend and she don't want to install cable network cause we are moving in 1 month. But i have some job to do in this time and i need internet. She have a flashcard with mobile internet from one of our mobile operators but it is more orientated for windows.

Anyway inside the flash there are instructions for installation on Linux. I'm using Fedora 20 and the instructions are these:

--How to Install---------------------- * You need login as root *

  1. Run "tar jxvf linux_install.tar.bz2"

  2. Run "./install" in TERMINAL to install MobilePartner eg: # bash /<path>/install

  3. If you had installed this software in your system before, you will get a prompt: "The software is exist, do you want overwrites? ([Y]/[N])", enter "y" to overwrites or "n" to exit.

  4. If you do not had installed this software in your system before, you will get a prompt: "Please input the install path[/usr/local/Mobile_Partner]:". Then you can input install path(fullpath), or you may using the default path(/usr/local/Mobile_Partner) by press ENTER direct

  5. Finish installing

--How to run-------------------------- * From shortcut in desktop

  • Run MobilePartner in your install path eg: # /<install path="">/MobilePartner

  • Plug in your device, it will run automatically (Not supported in Xandros)

So i navigate to the folder where the files for Linux installation via cd /run/media/jinx/the name of the flash. Then i execute the first command - tar jxvf linux_install.tar.bz2 First inside the folder the file is install_linux and when i execute - tar jxvf install_linux.tar.bz2 i receive a message :

tar(child): install_linux.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such a file or directory tar(child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: child returned status 2 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The install_linux (file) file is inside the flash drive and also the folder Linux

The files inside the folder are:

  1. 7zr (file)
  2. data (.bin)
  3. DataCard_Verify (file)
  4. install (file)
  5. MobilePartner (.bin)
  6. readme (.txt)
  7. SysConfig.dat (.dat)

Any ideas ?

Hey, i'v made Gnome LiveCD from the link of the above comment, when i boot from it i see 4 options : 1 OpenSuse-Factory-Gnome-next. 2 Installatio. 3 Boot from Hard Disk. 4 Memory test. ,

so what exactly did you meant when you said in the third part of your reply by "Boot from LiveCD(or USB) and open Gnome Live CD to confirm the free space" - This part i don't know what to do.

Thx for the reply, i will give it a try if the BRPocock's answer don't work or i can't handle it. In this case i have some questions related to the topic and not related to it. In the post is showed the way to extend the / partition from the /home partition, since i want to do the opposite do i have to make reverse of the algorithm commands for the / partition and the /home partition.

Hello,

I want to add the "sharp" symbol as a custom key cause i the layout i'm using is Englilsh(united kingdom) and they have special button for that symbol over the Enter key, but on my laptop keyboard i don't have such a button. I will attach a screen shot to show you what i mean. In the "Setting - keyboard - shortcuts i have custom shortcuts only for command combinations. Any ideas ?

here is a screen shot of the keyboard layout but i dont have the button coresponding to the "sharp" symbol above the "Enter@ key on my keyboard. - http://i62.tinypic.com/5arlz7.png

2015-07-30 10:11:22 -0600 asked a question Expand my /home dierctory from unallocated disk space

Hello firs,

I'm installed fedora 20 about an 3-4 hours maximum and i need some help with expanding the disk space of my /home directory. Before installing Fedora i had installed windows 7 and i need to keep the both OS cause of some university projects that require windows ometimes. I'v red this topics:

https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/ques...

http://askubuntu.com/questions/52424/...

But i'm not sure how to assume compleatly the information cause there are mentioned new hard discs and creating and expanding new partition but this is not exactly what i need(i will explain why).

The hard drive i ha is about 700GB from whitch i'm usiing only 250 GB. Windows partiotioning tool shows about 500 GB unallocated space. The "lsblk" command shows this:

NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 698.7G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 3.1G 0 part
├─sda2 8:2 0 98.4G 0 part /
├─sda3 8:3 0 25.8G 0 part
├─sda4 8:4 0 1K 0 part
├─sda5 8:5 0 53.7G 0 part
└─sda6 8:6 0 47.9G 0 part
  └─fedora-home 253:0 0 47.9G 0 lvm /home
sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0 rom

Sda2 is the root directory witch size is ok, but the sda6(my /home dir) is too small. I want to extend it to at least 200 GB for my needs(movies, music, docs, etc).

Any suggestations, ideas or propolsals are wellcomed. Thx alot in advance
