2012-11-29 11:54:20 -0500 answered a question can't upgrade from fedora 17 to rawhide using Preupgrade

Upgrades are changing a lot with Fedora 18. The old upgrade methods of using the DVD or preupgrade are no longer supported and will not work. The currently recommended upgrade method is FedUp, which is new for Fedora 18. For beta, only the CLI client is completed but we expect to have a GUI client in time for the release of Fedora 18 final.

Current documentation on how to use FedUp and some FAQs is available on the wiki.

If you hit issues with either upgrades or the documentation, please let someone know (probably me) either here, via email (my username at fedoraproject.org) or via IRC in #fedora-qa on Freenode (please direct IRC messages to me, though or I might miss them) .

This is mostly a copy-paste from another question - the answer is mostly the same and I want to cover at least some of the common F17 -> F18 upgrade questions

@skaftnanis sorry, didn't see your comment about fedup. did you use the --debuglog arg when you started the upgrade? If so, could you put the results and the output from the console up on http://paste.stg.fedoraproject.org/ and report the links here?

It's hard to know exactly what the issue is here without more details but I figured that I would add some general upgrade info if others find this question after hitting issues during upgrade.

@skaftnanis, @Argiris : preupgrade can't be used to upgrade from F17 to F18 - please use FedUp: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedUp

Actually, upgrade bugs should be filed against either fedup or fedup-dracut depending on where you hit the bug. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedUp has more details

2012-05-07 11:05:54 -0500 commented answer Why does a fedora USB made from the DVD iso still want the internet?

Those bugs shouldn't affect the creation of F16 media - there was a major change in how anaconda starts itself for F17 which has been related to most of the USB media related bugs in F17

2012-05-07 11:01:46 -0500 commented question Why does a fedora USB made from the DVD iso still want the internet?

A couple of things: 1. liveusb-creator doesn't support installation DVDs 2. livecd-iso-to-disk is generally the most reliable way to create USB install media Apparently, I need to learn this interface better - sorry for the update noise

2012-02-24 12:21:12 -0500 asked a question Passkey Entry for Encrypted Disks on Headless Box

I have a headless box that is using encrypted disks and have been keeping a monitor/keyboard around so that I can enter the LUKS passkey on boot.

Is there a way to enter the LUKS passkey without needing to keep the keyboard and monitor attached?

I found a stackexchange article that discusses how to do this on debian but I would prefer not to mess with the initramfs like that if I don't have to.

Any other suggestions on how to set this up?
