2017-04-13 05:05:01 -0500 commented answer Fedora 25 - VLC freezes the laptop when in fullscreen

I tried adding intelidle.maxcstate=1 to the kernel parameters and there is a significant improvement, but the issue is not completely solved.

In my case, whenever VLC freezes, the session exited unexpectedly. After adding the above parameter, the video freezes only if I frequently seek the video (from the VLC status bar). Any thoughts?

I have been using Fedora+Cinnamon (not the official spin) for more than an year and it's the most cleanest desktop I experienced after the original GNOME-2

2016-11-24 23:51:28 -0500 answered a question Will Fedora 25 get Cinnamon 3.2?

Cinnamon-3.2 is now available in Fedora 25 Updates repository. See the announcement: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archi...

I updated the packages and it works. Thank you very much.

2016-11-24 02:10:03 -0500 asked a question Cinnamon-3.2 menu search does not work

Upgraded Cinnamon to v3.2 in Fedora 25 from copr ( https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/cop... ). Everything works, except the search box in the menu. It seems the keyboard focus is shifted to somewhere else when I try to type something.

2015-03-27 11:44:26 -0500 marked best answer Preupgrade failed during reboot

I tried to upgrade my F15(x86_64) desktop to F16 through preupgrade and failed while rebooting. F15 uses LVM volumes, except for /boot.

The packages were successfully downloaded and the system prompted to reboot. After rebooting anaconda reported the following error in GUI:

The root for the previously installed system was not found

and the system prompted to exit the installer. When the installer exited, the following message was seen on the console:

error: cannot open Packages database in /mnt/sysimage/var/lib/rpm

Is this is a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Update:

It seems a bug in anaconda reported here: rhbz#748119 but the workaround mentioned there doesn't work.

2015-03-27 11:44:25 -0500 marked best answer Preupgrade taking more time

I'm on F15(64bit) desktop and trying to upgrade to F16 through preupgrade. However, preupgrade seems to be stalled at Download Installer Images. The last message visible on the progress bar is Getting installer images. This message is there for last 3 hours.

I don't think it's the Internet speed since I'm using 4mbps leased line connection.

I use vnc to connect to fedora desktop when I'm away from my desk. However, it works only if my account is logged in. Is it possible to access my desktop when my account is not logged in?

I have installed Fedora 21 and Cinnamon 2.4 on my laptop, But I couldn't figure out how to configure Bluetooth, which was working fine in Fedora 20. It seems cinnamon has a package named cinnamon-bluetooth, but it's not available in the Fedora repositories.

@baptistemm Thanks for your response. I don't have this problem anymore as I have upgraded to Fedora 21 (with Cinnamon DE) few weeks back

2013-09-10 01:09:30 -0500 answered a question Unable to configure Input Method in GNOME Classic

It seems I have the answer now:

Removed .config/ibus and .config/imsettings directories from home directory.

Configured the input method by visiting the Settings utility and everything worked very well.

Another change is that the hotkeys are changed from CTRL+Space to Super+Space

2013-08-28 00:29:02 -0500 asked a question Unable to configure Input Method in GNOME Classic

I have recently upgraded my Fedora 18 desktop to Fedora 19 and I'm using GNOME classic mode. I tried to configure Malayalam input method, but the window for IM configuration is not coming up.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click on the username on the top
  2. Click on settings and Region & language

The window got closed without any message.

Is this a known bug in Classic Mode?

2012-12-30 00:31:37 -0500 marked best answer How to display date on panel

Refer to the Fedora 15 release notes for information on this.

You can either use gnome-tweak-tool, a non-default graphical utility for tweaking various GNOME settings or use gsettings in the command line

  • gsettings set org.gnome.shell.clock show-date true
  • gsettings set org.gnome.shell.clock show-seconds true

2012-07-10 04:04:29 -0500 asked a question gnome-settings-daemon and dconf-service consuming 100% CPU

In my Fedora 17 desktop, gnome-settings-daemon and dconf-service is consuming more than 100% (the top command sometimes shows upto 130%; I don't know why) of the CPU. The CPU makes a lot of noise and most of the applications (firefox, hamster, openoffice) becomes unresponsive for a while. Is this a bug or a misconfiguration.

The desktop is upgraded from Fedora 16 through pre-upgrade.

Package details:

  • gnome-settings-daemon-3.4.2-3.fc17.x86_64
  • dconf-0.12.1-1.fc17.x86_64

2012-06-23 12:24:44 -0500 answered a question Webcam freezes Fedora 16

The solution for this issue is available in ArchWiki. You just have to create a config file(/etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf) with the following contents:

options uvcvideo nodrop=1

I was able to get the webcam working in Cheese with the above change. Here is my system configuration:

  • Samsung NP300E5Z-A0MIN
  • Fedora 17
  • kernel-3.4.3-1.fc17.x86_64
