How to install new software offline

Hi there, I found the problems on each installing new software on Fedora 16. I am newbie Fedora user. I do not why I chose Fedora for my OS in my PC. I always look for rpm file for my new software package. But I still meet the problem every installing under comman line $su -c 'yum install *.rpm'. Any other way to install rpm file or other file (deb, sh, etc)? Please help me
