Speeding Up Fedora24/Gnome

I'm running 24 from a usb stick and it runs pretty well on my old dell 1545 w/usb 2.0. I'd still like to make it a bit faster if possible.

According to the following thread:

https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:SSD_performance

I set vm.swappiness=1 and vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50.

I did see a significant improvement in performance; however nautilus and sometime gnome and my apps will just freeze ths system for up to 30 seconds waiting for something to happen. I wish I could make this go away.

Any help appreciated.
