Properly install Nvidia Drivers

I want to install the Nvidia drivers from the official site but am running into a snag.

I have uninstalled the Nouveau drivers as they are incompatable with Nvidia proprietary drivers, and then go thru the process to install the drivers

init 3 sh /home/[myname]/Downloads/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.19.run

but here is where it runs into a problem... It says that there is still Nouveau running but when i check the System Details it says that i have Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x300) installed as my graphics drivers.

What do I need to do?

Running Fedora 17 x86_64
