LUKS encrypted partition requires two passwords

I have set up LUKS or dm-crypt on a partition. When I log on I am prompted for the password to decrypt the partition as I would expect. But when I enter the password, I am then prompted for my regular password with the message "authentication required to mount partition". Is there a way to avoid this second step?
