Configure Parallel Printer Using USB Adapter

I have an old IBM ProPrinter I have been using for trivial print jobs. I am moving it from a system being retired that had a parallel port to a new system running fedora 18 and want to attach it via a USB serial/parallel adapter. I am already (successfully) using the serial port on this same adapter for some devlopment equipment (usb serial to legacy serial).

From /var/log/messages:

systemd[1]: Starting Configure Plugged-In Printer...

systemd[1]: Started Configure Plugged-In Printer.

kernel: [1374195.825988] usb 1-1.6.2: new full-speed USB device number 30 using ehci-pci

systemd[1]: configure-printer@usb-001-029.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

systemd[1]: Unit configure-printer@usb-001-029.service entered failed state.

From lsusb: Bus 001 Device 029: ID 067b:2305 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port

I tried to configure the printer to cups as a serial printer but it chose DeviceURI serial:/dev/ttyUSB0?baud=1200+bits=8+parity=none+flow=none which of course isn't right.

I was thinking of making an entry in udev's 99-local.rules with a symlink and then editing the cups configuration to use that, but let me ask first, what is the proper way to enable this?
