AMD ASUS M5A99FX Pro motherboard. Fedora 24 installed on hard drive. Can read and write USB sticks normally, but as soon as media writer selects an ISO file to burn to USB stick media writer, the whole computer locks up. ISO file can be official Fedora 24 or 25, or any other. With IOMMU OFF it freezes when I start media writer. With IOMMU ON it freezes when selecting an ISO. I don't see anything obvious in the logs.

Welcome to ask.fedora. How thoroughly does your system lock up? Can you use CTRL-ALT-F2 to get to a text console and do a clean reboot, or do you have to use the power switch? If the latter, you may want to enable the Magic SysRq Key so that you can use reisub to force a clean boot. (If that doesn't work, you're looking at a kernel panic.)

I'd try running it with strace, ie strace -ff -vvv -s500 -o fmw.out /usr/bin/mediawriter. If you can't identify the issue from reading the trace, attach the trace files to a bug report.

No response to: CTRL-ALT-F2 I should have mentioned that.

Have you tried using the Magic SysRq Key as I suggested above?

Does this happen with the nouveau graphics driver?

I'm having the same problem with Fedora 25, both in the live media and installed version. As soon as I select the image the whole system freezes; in my case I've tried to select the net install image.

I would try dnf remove liveusb-creator Then dnf install liveusb-creator I think it didn't install properly/

Fedora Media Writer and liveusb-creator are different. Also, any package has a manifest of the files it provides; if you verify the files like rpm -V liveusb-creator and there are no complaints, it's usually unlikely that reinstalling will produce a different result.
