Ok I've tried Fedora Media Writer on my iMac and all I am able to install on my USB is a live version of Fedora 25 (KDE)? Am I missing something?

I didn't have this much trouble with Kali.

Agree with @aeperezt: A live version is the usual desired result of installing on a thumbdrive. What did you expect instead?

You have achieved the main goal of Fedora Media Writer which is to create, among others, a live version of Fedora on a USB drive or key from an ISO file. Now, if you want to install Fedora on your iMac, you have to boot the USB live and, once booted, use the install function that is displayed both on the desktop and in the main menu. But you also have the choice, not to install Fedora on your machine, and go on using the live USB.
