How to adjust brightness on Fedora 25?

I have tried various sorts of methods to adjust the brightness: installing xbacklight, xrandr... Also I am new to linux so I would appreciate a slightly dumbed down answer. I have a DELL Inspiron 7559. The /sys/class/backlight/ folder seems to be empty, even after clicking 'Show Hidden Files'. I have nvidia geforce 960m and intel hd graphics 530. I have been looking around a lot of forums in vain and it's driving me crazy! I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Are you using Gnome?

I can adjust brightness from the system menu without going into things like xbacklight etc.

Have you tried this? [apologies if you have]

Adjusting the brightness using those controls don't work on Fedora 25 on a T430.

FYI: Works just fine on a T440 (fedora 25) with kernel 4.11.x

Outside a laptop, this isn't possible? The setting mentioned here does not show up. It seems it should be part of the color mode etc. I get a "night light" in Fedora 26 so certainly it seems it can change brightness but no option is presented.

I tried xbacklight installing via dnf install xbacklight to reduce the brightness, keep pressing the buttons responsible for brightness adjust( fn+downarrow in my case) even if the animation shows it to be at its lowest limit. After seven-eight times it would start reducing the brightness. Hope this works for you :) !!!

I have the same issue, trying to look into it. Fedora 25 does not appear to recognize it as a laptop and does not display the dimming option. It also wont shut the monitor off when you close the lid.

I have an Asus Zenbook UX31E and since Fedora 25 it doesn't work anymore over the Keyboard (Fn+F5/6) or in the GNOME settings like padraic said.

Have you tried the function key combination which adjusts the screen brightness? It is probably Fn+Home and Fn+End, but look at the blue markings on your keyboard for a symbol similar to
