Nvidia issues with Fedora 25

upgraded to Fedora 25. have an Nvidia Geforce gt 740 graphics card. now KDE menu bar across bottom of screen freezes and now I have lost 1 display. have been using Cinnamon as a desktop (for now,) swapped displays on card and the other one works. so either my problem is the card or driver issue between F-25 and Nvidia. any Ideas? I've seen online that there are no drivers from Nvidia for F25 yet. any work arounds?

Whatever you read is wrong, rpmfusion always supported F25 release from day one with 375.20! I wouldn't bother with the crappy guide from if-not-true-then-false.com , to be honest it's complete shit.

The rpmfusion guide isn't a lot better either as the commands install kernel-debug-devel (That issue is caused by lame kernel packaging).

I would run

sudo dnf update

reboot to new kernel, then run

sudo dnf install kernel-devel
sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia

If you require 32bit libs, run

sudo dnf install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-.i686

P.S If your card is a 740M (laptop card) it will probably fail as optimus sucks.

@leigh123linux interested to see you slam that if-not-true* guide. That was my first port of call way back in the distant days of F22! Knew zero about Linux at the time, it looked authoritative, but it can entirely ruin an installation. My most recent dabbling was installing Arch on a laptop, which drove me to read through all the man pages for e.g. grub, mkinit, plymouth, etc. at which point I began realising that said guide seemed more 're-hash' than based on any in-depth understanding. Not that I claim to understand either, but now confident to do my own research ;0)

I am currently running the proprietary Nvidia drivers for a GeForce GTX 960 with Fedora 25. I posted a little write-up on the process for Fedora 23 which is still applicable to Fedora 25 a while back. It is based on the popular guide at if-not-true-then-false.com..

You may be seeing online that there are not yet Nvidia drivers available for Wayland-based systems, and that is true, but Fedora 25 ships with the X11 server components necessary to run without Wayland, as well, and the installation process for Nvidia will result in your system utilizing the X11 software rather than Wayland.

It all works for me, so let me know if you have any issues with the installation and I'll be glad to help.

It gnome that wasn't ready FYI, mutter-3.23 has eglstream support needed for wayland so f26 will work.
