I'm trying to use the latest update for sage provided for fedora 24. This is version 6.8. (I know that SageMath 7.4 is available, but I'm trying to stick with the fedora releases.) When I try to run the program by typing in "sage" or by selecting the link in the Applications menu, I get:

$ sage
│ SageMath Version 6.8, Release Date: 2015-07-26                     │
│ Type "notebook()" for the browser-based notebook interface. │
│ Type "help()" for help. │
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib64/sagemath/local/bin/sage-ipython", line 7, in <module>
    from sage.repl.interpreter import SageTerminalApp
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/sage/repl/", line 107, in <module>
    from IPython import Config
ImportError: cannot import name Config

I've tried reloading the sagemath rpms but the problem persists. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I know you're aware that SageMath 7.4 is out, but are you aware that it is available as a binary tarball for Fedora 24 (here's the current link That is, there's a tar.bz2 archive you merely need to download, extract and run a sage script inside in order to start SageMath. No compilation required! Sounds simpler to use it than fixing this issue with SageMath 6.8 installed via DNF.
