GDM in my fresh upgrade to F25 uses X no matter what choice I make on login screen. I don't have a problem with that, but I'd like to know whether that is by design? I understand NVidia drivers are not supported by Fedora, but I just want to understand what Fedora designed to happen. Thanks.

Do you have a laptop with Optimus? From what I can tell, laptops with dual GPUs are loading the KMS backend in the kernel, even if you have the nouveau drivers installed.

No, this is a deskside workstation with a Quadro K2000. No Optimus.

indeed Nvidia drivers are not supported by Gnome-on-wayland right now, but it could be be supported in next Fedora 26 with Gnome 3.24. See phoronix for more details.

Got it thanks. That Phoronix link references this one, which says "starting from Fedora Workstation 25 you will be able to use Wayland also with NVidias binary driver". So I guess those patches did not make it into 25. EDIT: And that second link references this link suggesting that I should have expected Wayland capability in F25, with no Optimus.
