After upgrading to fedora 25 from fedora 24, my display does not resize to the host console.

VMWARE Workstation 12 Pro 12.5.2 build-4638234

I have tried re-installing open-vmware-tools, but no luck.

Any thing I have missed?

Had the same problems over and over again and switched over to virtualization environment that is part of Fedora. Install with su -c "dnf install @virtualization". The program to manage vm's is virt-manager (virtual machine manager on desktop).

When logging in to the system change to either gnome classic or gnome on x11 and it should work. The reason for the problem is the Wayland is now the default and is not supported by VM Tools.

Somewhat disappointing, since Wayland was one of the things I was really looking forward to in Fedora 25. But I doubt support will be forthcoming since VMware fired the entire Fusion/Workstation development team.

So, things being what they are, what's the best way to make Gnome Classic or Gnome on X11 the default -- and preferably also pre-login? And what exactly is the difference between the two options?

Try uncommenting this line in /etc/gdm/custom.conf
