Monitors turns off during boot

after selecting the kernel version in grub menu, I get a black screen and after a few seconds, my monitor turns off, so I assume no signal is send.

I'm running Fedora 23, this issue appeared after a regular update, if I boot an older kernel version (4.5.7-202) everything still works fine.

If I add 'nomodeset' as a boot parameter, this issue does not happen, but in this case the video driver never seems to be loaded and I'm defaulted to minimal resolution.

I'm using an Nvidia graphics card with the Nouveau driver. Anyone has an idea what might cause this behavior?

Thanks in advance!

I have almost exactly the same problem (also on a Fedora 23 system with an Nvidia card using the nouveau driver):

  • System was booting fine with kernel 4.5.7-202
  • Fails to boot with all subsequent kernels (monitor turns off soon after it starts booting)
  • Boot param 'nomodeset' fixes the problem, but screen resolution is not good enough

I'm working around this by booting the older kernel, but obviously this is far from ideal.
