gnome-settings-daemon and dconf-service consuming 100% CPU [closed]

In my Fedora 17 desktop, gnome-settings-daemon and dconf-service is consuming more than 100% (the top command sometimes shows upto 130%; I don't know why) of the CPU. The CPU makes a lot of noise and most of the applications (firefox, hamster, openoffice) becomes unresponsive for a while. Is this a bug or a misconfiguration.

The desktop is upgraded from Fedora 16 through pre-upgrade.

Package details:

  • gnome-settings-daemon-3.4.2-3.fc17.x86_64
  • dconf-0.12.1-1.fc17.x86_64

is there some output in the file $HOME/.xsession-errors ? Could the upgrade be incomplete ? does a yum distro-sync solve the issue ?

@baptistemm Thanks for your response. I don't have this problem anymore as I have upgraded to Fedora 21 (with Cinnamon DE) few weeks back
