when I make a typo in shell, it prints "bash: xxx not found.." and waits about 5 seconds before it puts me back to prompt. I guess this is to lookup a RPM package which substitutes this. But it is not returning anything, how can I fix this/disable this?

I think while ago Linus was ranting about this behaviour as well..

I always remove it, I never need it...but I didn't know the other answer...

Add this line to your bashrc file

unset command_not_found_handle

It's located at ~/bashrc
