I run Fedora 24 and I am learning how to program Java with eclipse mars. I have tried downloading the dnf install/mars(on eclipse website)/neon(on website) and every time I do the java project tab to create a new project wont open. It says error or just does nothing and acts like I didnt click anything. (I'm sorry I came to this form instead of something dedicated to eclipse but I cant get helpful answers from any other question form site). When I try to change PATH it does the same thing. Thank you for your time and all the help you give.

could you be more specific about the errors you're getting?

Please post the contents of ~/workspace/.metadata/.log. It will contain the errors. I'm running Eclipse on Fedora 24. It mostly works for me but I can't remember if I have done that particular operation since upgrading and I'm away from my Fedora machine right now.

You could have a problem if you have multiple versions of Eclipse using the same workspace. You should select a new workspace for each version or only use the latest version (and therefore you only need one workspace).

You didn't had to install Eclipse using dnf, Eclipse Neon comes in the software center of Fedora 24 and it's better to install it that way. Did you installed JDK 8 before installing Eclipse? Without JDK 8 you can't code in Java!
