local search domain

asked 2016-07-19 09:35:38 -0500

I have mdns configured, so that I can actually resolve 'machine.local'. However, I would like to have 'machine' alone resolvable. I tried adding 'local' to the resolv.conf search (via networkmanager), but that didn't help. Any idea?

Have you tried editing /etc/hosts?

This is correct path forward; you need to add any namespace resolutions you would like to enforce locally for your system (that is, not through the DNS service to which your system connects as a client) in the /etc/hosts file. The file syntax should be clear from its contents.
