Fedora 24 doesn't do anything when closing laptop lid

This used to work just fine using Fedora 23. I upgraded to Fedora 24 using the recommended method. After the upgrade closing the lid doesn't suspend the machine.

The option is also removed from GNOME settings.

Did you check gnome-tweak-tool?

I ran into this on my HP Envy. To fix it, as root I opened /etc/systemd/logind.conf, found the line that said:

#HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore

and replaced it with:

HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend

Note the removed hash at the beginning of the line

I then ran: systemctl restart systemd-logind, and when I closed the lid, the system suspended properly

Thanks for that, a great fix for my HP Spectre X360 and my old HP DM1. Much appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚. Have to say I'm disappointed that such a heavily resourced manager like Gnome doesn't have this included in the settings. Especially when you compare it with the relatively light LXQt which has it beautifully set out for with and without external monitor! Anyway still have a lot of Love for Gnome and am very pleased with this fix

Make sure that you have these two lines in your /etc/systemd/logind.conf:

  1. HandleLidSwitch=suspend
  2. HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend

Note that this works only in fedora.
