Powers on inactive hard drive before shutting down

Hi everyone, I'm using Fedora 23 and I have a secondary hard drive only for music in which I have set a timeout of 30 minutes after which it will be powered off (with gnome-disks). So far so good, but every time I shut down the system if this hdd was powered off I can hear it starting to spin and until it has reached its speed the computer won't shut down. Does anyone know why is this happening and to avoid it? Does the os have to write something to it like media player metadata or something?
