I'm using Fedora 23

When using kernel Screen Lock works but I can't resume desktop and have to restart the computer to get back into desktop

When using kernel Screen Lock works and I can enter the password to resume desktop

Anyone got any ideas why it won't work in kernel 4.4.9 ?

TIA :)

No idea, why. Just can say that it works for me with both 4.4.8 and 4.4.9. I would file a bug report if problem persists after upcoming update to 4.5.5. Question would be against what component, probably kernel.

Have you tried to see what dmesg logged?

$ dmesg

or if you wish to only see the last few lines

$ dmesg | tail

Also, tried looking at your xorg, maybe something is failing in your session?

cat ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log

Another, depending on what windows manager you are using, there may be an error in loading your gdm?

thanks for the info, learn something new everyday :)

here are the error logs from dmesg | tail

[ 18.583900] [drm:r600_ring_test [radeon]] ERROR radeon: ring 0 test failed (scratch(0x850C)=0xCAFEDEAD) [ 18.583918] [drm:si_resume [radeon]] ERROR si startup failed on resume

I think this is something to do with the video card in my laptop ?

Well, errors for your video card could be from a various amount of reasons. To rule it out, I would try looking into setting up a copy of your xorg config and seeing if there is something with the configuration. There could be something with your instance that is trying to load a module but doesn't play well with your laptop. I would look into trying a different gdm and lockscreen first to see if it isn't just a bad compatibility / configuration.

Update :(

I still have no solution to this problem of not being able to resume after activating the screen lock in Fedora :(
I have tried the following versions 4.5.7-200 & 4.5.6-200 & 4.5.5-201 in Gnome Classic, none work
When logged in as 4.5.7-200 Gnome on Wayland it works but not when logged in on Gnome or Gnome Classic

Anyone got an answer to this ?

Try these commands:

$ sudo systemctl stop sddm

$ sudo systemctl start gdm

This made the trick for me.
