I am trying to create a virtual installation with Boxes. I am running a fresh iand updtated nstall of F23 Workstation. I have tried with various ISOs Fedora, Ubuntu, debian and each time the same things happens. When I want to create the machine, the Boxes windows vanishes in the air. If I restart it, there is an icon for the new machine, but whent I launch it, my hard disk seems to accelerate as if it was a plane on the verge of taking off, but nothing happens. The windows remains desperately black. Can somebody tell me whether Boxes works or not? Thank

It does work, I use it frequently. Click New. Sometimes it discovers ISOs in ~/Downloads automatically, sometimes I have to go navigate to the ISO. Then click Create. The window gets a bit bigger and it's a boot menu for the install media. Boots normally.

Try 'sudo journalctl -f' in Terminal, then launch Boxes and try again. Stop journal following when the problem/unexpected behavior happens, copy-paste the journal contents into a text file, and then fpaste it.

fpaste ~/filename.txt

And post the URL. fpasting this will be easier to read.

See if there is any helpful information here https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Gettin...

What is/how old is your hardware? If you use KVM you need a CPU with virtualization extensions. Check it by running egrep '^flags.*(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo. Any output from this command?

Also, there is a Guide on how to debug Virtualization Problems. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to... Maybe that is helpful.

Gnome Boxes is crashing for some reason. Could you please open the ABRT (bug reporting tool) and check what it says. Is your system up to date?

So, as @cmurf said, it does work, unless you are affected by a bug. I don't know any workaround for this, sorry. I would subscribe to this bug, and also to the potential duplicate to receive email updates when there is something new to it.

Maybe, until they get it fixed, you can try virt-manager (or VirtualBox, which works just fine but is not as free as Fedora is supposed to be..)

Thank you cmurf and florian for your attention and help.

@cmurf . you say it works and I believe you. But probably, your install is not a fresh one. On a fresh install, it doesn't, believe me please. Here is the journal you asked in such a case:

http://paste.fedoraproject.org/358426/61299969

In fact, I made some research and arrived on the page Florian is speaking of before reading his answer. I just verified with the egrep command my hardware was capable and then I ran:

su -c 'dnf install @virtualization'

I tried again but it didn't work; it was yesterday night. This morning, reading you answers I tried again and it worked. Whaoo!

Then I decided to retry with an other fresh install again and it didn't work one more time.

After that I redid the installation of @virtualization but it still didn''t work. I tried to stop and restart the libvirtd daemon but nothing changed. I restarted the computer but it had no effect. In fact, I only get it working on the first install by chance. I would be glad to understand what is happening.
