Can I somehow upgrade fedora 21to 23 on a duel boot pc?

asked 2016-04-20 14:03:28 -0500

my pc is a duel boot of red hat fedora 21 and windows 7 (with a virus), and i wish to upgrade it to keep my current programs and web browsers secure and up to date. what exactly must i do? iam older and don't exactly uderstand what my son did when he installed fedora but im still a little competent, when i try to update i get this.

adobe-linux-x86_64 | 951 B 00:00
fedora/21/x86_64/metalink | 12 kB 00:00 : [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 - Not Found Trying other mirror.

One of the configured repositories failed (google-chrome), and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this:

 1. Contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the problem.

 2. Reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository, to point to a working
upstream. This is most often useful if you are using a newer
distribution release than is supported by the repository (and the
packages for the previous distribution release still work).

 3. Disable the repository, so yum won't use it by default. Yum will then
just ignore the repository until you permanently enable it again or use
    --enablerepo for temporary usage:

        yum-config-manager --disable google-chrome

 4. Configure the failing repository to be skipped, if it is unavailable.
Note that yum will try to contact the repo. when it runs most commands,
so will have to try and fail each time (and thus. yum will be be much
slower). If it is a very temporary problem though, this is often a nice

        yum-config-manager --save --setopt=google-chrome.skip_if_unavailable=true

failure: repodata/repomd.xml from google-chrome: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. : [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 - Not Found help?

Those software mirrors may be unavailable because Fedora 21 is End-Of-Life since December 2015 and thus not supported anymore. If you still want to perform an update, run the command that yum suggested: yum-config-manager --save --setopt=google-chrome.skip_if_unavailable=true.

Then everything except Google Chrome receives an update. (But you will still be on Fedora 21).

my general advice is to upgrade the entire system to at least Fedora 22, or better Fedora 23. Here is how it works. As far as I know, you could skip F22 and upgrade to F23 directly.
