I have been using FC23 and I just love it. Unfortunately, I am not able to suspend or hibernate the system on my Acer laptop. When I try to suspend, system blocks, and it looks like it´s shuting down, but it won´t suspend, and the power led won´t blink. It just stays that way. I have to manually shut it down by pressing the power button for 5 seconds. I want to know if this can cause any type of damage to the HDD. I ask this because FC23 is not booting any more. I am presented with grub command line. I installed on Windows a HDD test software and it shows 1 bad sector. SMART also says the same thing... Now, all I get is the GRUB comand line. I had to go to the UEFI/BIOS and choose the windows EFI boot in order to start Windows. It´s all I got right now.

Is there any software that can help me? Fixing the bad sector? Will the Fedora 23 Live DVD help me?

Thanx for the help. After that, will FC23 boot? If not, what do I do?

If the damage on your disk is not big it should. But keep in mind that if it show more damage consider changing the drive as it deteriorate.

You can use fsk.ext4 for sda5, for lvm partitions you need to do fsck.ext4 /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01 if that partition is ext4, to help you more need to to provide the output of lvdisplay
