Im would like to buy a new XPS 13 Developer Edition. I guess, it should be not a big deal to install F-23. Also i would like to buy a docking Station. Either D3100 or DA100. Both of them are USB 3.0. Have someone experience with Linux and USB 3.0 Docking Station? I searched a lot in the Internet, but i didn't found a good answer. I have read that there are problems with the DisplayLink drivers.

Hello, I finaly received my new XPS 13 9350 (2016) and the D3100 dock. I ordered the Developer Edition, so no issue with WLAN card. I installed the DisplayLink driver from here and it works pretty good. Everything is working. Google Chrome was not realy working on the Monitor which is connected through DisplayLink. I had to disable the Hardware Acceleration in Google Chrome.

I recently bought an XPS 13 9350, as well as a D3100 Displaylink dock. I've tried both Fedora and Ubuntu on this machine and Fedora definitely seems to handle the dual monitors better (Ubuntu had some freezing, and also I would occasionally have to reboot entirely to get it to work again when it froze). All the USB ports, HDMI ports, and ethernet ports work for me.

The main problem I've had so far I actually created my own question on here, that I did not have in Ubuntu:

I did need to disable some settings in the BIOS in order for the installation of either OS to find the hard drive:

  • disable secure boot
  • unset the SATA RAID

Once I had fedora 23 installed, the wifi did not work, however simply upgrading to the latest stable kernel 4.4.6, the Wifi started working without issues. (without wifi, I put the kernel rpm's found here: onto a USB, transferred to the laptop, and installed them via rpm -ivh *.rpm)

This was a good resource for me when setting it up:

Thanks for your very good answer! That means, the D3100 dock is working out of the box? You are using the USB 3.0 Version? No need to install any drivers? I already know the Wifi issue. It should work with the latest Kernel, as you explained.

The drivers are a port from the official Ubuntu drivers, but they seem to work fine. I got them from here:
