Launching Gnome Settings the system freezes for some seconds

It happens regularly if I launch the Gnome Settings or if I open a pdf with Okular: everything is frozen for 3-6 seconds. I suspect that is something related with the kernel because I noticed this behavior after a kernel update. Unfortunately, the old kernel was removed and I'm not able to downgrade (it was removed by the repositories).

On boot you can usually choose between 3 kernels. Just try an older one.

What kernel, Fedora version and okular version are you running?

Unfortunately, my older kernel is already affected by this problem. I'm experiencing this problem on F23 kernel 4.4.5-300.fc23.x86_64

I discovered that it was not caused by the kernel but by the video driver (I've an NVIDIA with optimus staff). I solved, but I'm not fully sure of what has specifically solved: I think that removing the Nouveau driver was the key, because I was following the NVIDIA proprietary driver installation (but at the end I've not completed the installation) Here the step that I followed:

# echo "blacklist nouveau" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Append ‘rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau’ to end of ‘GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”…”‘

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=" rhgb quiet rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau"

Update grub2 conf

## BIOS ##
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

## UEFI ##
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg

Generate initramfs

## Backup old initramfs nouveau image ##
mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img

## Create new initramfs image ##
dracut /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)
