Hi everyone,

I'm getting a weird problem where the monospace fonts, such as in gnome-terminal and gedit, are very ugly and have uneven spacing.

For example,

LANG="zh_CN.utf8" gnome-terminal screenshot:

LANG="en_US.utf8" gnome-terminal screenshot:

With gedit, the brackets don't even line up:

LANG="zh_CN.utf8" gedit screenshot:

LANG="en_US.utf8" gedit screenshot:

Does anyone know why this happens? I have the wqy-zenhei and wqy-microhei Chinese fonts installed (full list: here).

Thanks in advance!

Hello, Though I have not a solution, this paragraph may provide some more insight:

[...] Xterm checks for differences in the alignment and size, but the font server may give incorrect information about the font size. The scaled bitmap font feature gives poor results for the smaller fonts [...]

Can you explicate what's wrong with the editor screenshots? I don't see a difference, next to the thickness of the closing braces (}).
