KDE crash shortly after enabling 2nd display

asked 2016-02-24 07:28:46 -0500

I use some scripts to enable just one display at any given time, since KDE settings doesn't really work for this. Here is a sample script:

xrandr --output DP1 --auto --primary --output eDP1 --off

My scripts work initially, but then KDE crashes entirely and returns me to the login screen (SDDM). Normally, when an application crashes, abrt detects it and displays a popup, but in this situation abrt doesn't seem to detect it (and couldn't pop up anything even if it did, at the login screen). How can I troubleshoot this problem?

This seems to be triggered by a certain application - Toggl Desktop. But how is it possible for an application to bring down the entire desktop environment?
