I tried to install the proprietary driver but it wouldn't work. Now I need to somehow restore my previous configuration (open source driver). I removed 2 packages with names like xorg-drv-ati and xorg.conf file and tried to generate default xorg.conf using x -configure, but I get a message telling me that x server is running and I can't force it to reconfigure. I don't have any backup copy of my previous xorg.conf. It seems I can launch gnome, but it looks like gnome 2.

What can I do about it? Is there any basic, working xorg.conf for ATI Mobility HD 4570 (Dell Studio 1557)?
