In the good old days Linux could be shut down in seconds by typing:

shutdown -h now

Nowadays my PC hangs or freezes almost daily and I have to ssh into it try to shut it down. The above command either takes minutes or does not work and I end up using the power button.

What command should I use?

Command looks good. You might want to explore why your computer is hanging and freezing ...

Unfortunately, I know why -- unnecessary, buggy, monolithic software. My PC is fine. I had no problems with Fedora 14, 15 etc. Fedora seems to get bigger and slower with every new release.

I simply want the best workround for the new bugs.
