Hello everyone! I have an issue with my laptop's wifi signal. I have an HP 250 G3 notebook, and Fedora 23 64 bit OS with Cinnamon, and the wifi signal is very bad. When I'm near to the router the strength of the signal is good, but when I'm in the next room the signal is very low.

How could I make my signal better than this?

Hard to say without more infomation. For example, is your router using the 5Ghz radio? If so, change to the 2.4Ghz radio. That can better penetrate walls and such.

Doesn't sound like a Fedora/OS related problem. And didn't experience that with other OS'? Have you ie tried a live media (Ubuntu, or another Fedora, ie F22 w/Gnome)?

I used Fedora 22 and other Fedora fork (KDE and Gnome) and Debian 8 on this notebook, and I bought it with a preinstalled Windows 8.1. Debian has a little better signal than Fedora. I read a lot about it and I know that the Ralink RT3290 is not fully compatible with Linux. I only want to not drop me down always and my download speed should be more than 50Kb/s (not always but sometimes the speed is drop down and it's remain there for a few minutes) The router using 2,4Ghz. Maybe I should put another router to this room too? :)

Oh yea, I see, the web is full of questions and guides to get this chip working under Linux. If the driver is really your problem, you should consider building a kernel module. I quickly looked at his post here, and it should be possible to do the same for Fedora BUT please check with other people before. You never know if the driver mentioned there is better or worse than the one you are currently using. lsmod | grep rtlwifi shows you what kernel module is currently loaded on your system.

lsmod | grep rtlwifi show nothing for me :)

[wanderer@hp-250 ~]$ lsmod | grep rtlwifi
[wanderer@hp-250 ~]$

And the same as root. I saw this post what you linked before, and thank you for your replies. Maybe I give a try to build a kernel module. Thanks.

lsmod | grep rtl should show the module that is loaded. Sorry.
