I'm trying to install Fedora 17 on my desktop computer, but every time I run the Live CD the installer freezes after displaying the wallpaper (before it asks me whether I want to install Fedora or try it). The mouse pointer is still moving and the keyboard is responding (caps lock and num lock are responding), but nothing else is happening and I have no idea why that is.

Note: I've tried installing Fedora 17 from the same CD on VirtualBox and it installed fine with no problems at all.

It sounds like your video hardware is not supported by F17. It worked in VirtualBox because VB provided it's own virtual video driver, which F17 supports.

Hmmm, since there are so many hardware devices and manufacturers, people have stopped maintaining Hardware Compatibility Lists (HCLs.) The best I could find is at LQ (, but that isn't very up-to-date. Oh, and here's the Fedora HCL that was stopped and restarted:

That's minimum system requirements, not a list of supported hardware.

For the benefit of future visitors to this page, an HCL is definitely a list of supported hardware. Either I edited/corrected the above answer after @randomuser commented, or @randomuser is mistaken.

Try download and burn another disk, the ISO image may be damaged or corrupted
