I'm on Fedora 23, I installed KDE and want to remove GNOME because i don't use it anymore. How I can do that?

From previous questions I see

dnf remove @gnome-desktop

which now gives

Warning: Group 'gnome-desktop' is not installed.
Error: No groups marked for removal.

Did you had gnome before you can do a simple

dnf remove gnome

it will take all dependencies

It does NOT work

[root@raffa-pc raffa]# dnf remove gnome
No match for argument: gnome
Error: No packages marked for removal.

This will work

sudo dnf remove gnome*

I suspected that was it, but running it makes my screen black. I have to restart the PC, and Fedora boot in command line, not into Plasma. Running startx will start GNOME (so it does not even get completely deleted, I guess). Now I fixed that. Seems to be related to gdm getting uninstalled as well, so first you need to run something like

sudo systemctl disable gdm
sudo systemctl enable kdm

I have reinstalled GNOME in the try to fix it. I will give it another try when I have time, but I fear my screen goes black and something does not get uninstalled? What do you think?

I did yum remove "gnome*" "evolution*" on my Fedora Core 24 system which removes MANY other things (234 total in my case; I also know that yum redirects to dnf, but yum still works fine for now), and then rebooted. In my case I had to yum install fvwm to get fvwm2 back. Your situation may differ in terms of what to reinstall after reboot. This is an extreme solution, but did work for me.

Note that you can always install different official spins of Fedora. They include different desktop environments by default.

There's no way to remove it without having to reinstall a different spin?
