I tried "True Image 2012" but without success. It seeks to create a huge. Then I tried "Clonezilla" and seems to have worked, but in the testing stage says it could be a mistake. So I'm not sure that the image is restorable. Suggestions?

The way I do my backups is to periodically save my home directory, important system configuration files on an external medium such as external hard drive. This obviously doesn't save the currently installed programs. Therefore I make a note of every bit of software I install through yum. This means I could then install fedora from scratch, download the list of software, and put files such as home directory and system config files (i.e. /etc/X11/xorg.conf) into their rightful place.

As described in the comments, an image of the whole physical disk could be created using `dd'. I've never used clonezilla but it has been mentioned on here before.
