Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: MachineWrap Interface: IMachine {f30138d4-e5ea-4b3a-8858-a059de4c93fd}

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/sbin/boxconfig' as root. if it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

What version of VirtualBox do you use? And from which repository it was installed? (rpmfusion or Oracle or...?)

I suggest you use KVM - VirtManager is a graphical front end. KVM + spice is IMO much better the vbox

it is 5.0.10 the newest and the repo was Oracle...

I like what you are saying...I think the Oracle install is the problem

I have tried all that you guys say and nothing works...I think it is cause I am on a machine that used to be a windows laptop and I can not get into bios but used fdisk to change it to a fedora machine...I do see some other little things are not right but nothing major except VirtaulBox...Iam not going to mess with it any more...Thanks to all and Merry Christmas

If you want to get it going, just 1.) uninstall virtualbox completely (sudo dnf remove VirtualBox-*), then 2.) install DKMS (sudo dnf install dkms), then 3.) clean your dnf cache (sudo dnf clean all), 4.) reboot your PC, and then 5.) install virtualbox (sudo dnf install VirtualBox-5.0), make sure 5a) this is coming from oracle's repo, not from rpm (sudo dnf info VirtualBox-5.0).

And then run 7.) /usr/lib/virtualbox/ setup

wiki page:

You may enable RPMFusion repos , uninstall all other VirtualBox stuff and do:

in host system :

dnf install VirtualBox kernel-devel-$(uname -r)

it should install :

 VirtualBox x86_64 5.0.14-1.fc23 rpmfusion-free-updates-testing 26 M
 VirtualBox-kmodsrc x86_64 5.0.14-1.fc23 rpmfusion-free-updates-testing 710 k
 akmod-VirtualBox x86_64 5.0.14-1.fc23 rpmfusion-free-updates-testing 26 k
 akmods noarch 0.5.4-2.fc23 rpmfusion-free-updates-testing 25 k
 kernel-devel x86_64 4.3.4-300.fc23 updates-testing 10 M
 kmodtool noarch 1-23.fc23 rpmfusion-free-updates-testing 17 k

or in guest system:

dnf install VirtualBox-guest kernel-devel-$(uname -r)

after that:

 systemctl restart systemd-modules-load.service

in dmesg you should see kernel modules loaded:

dmesg | grep -i vbox
[ 2870.556703] vboxdrv: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
[ 2870.565213] vboxdrv: Found 2 processor cores
[ 2870.571315] vboxdrv: fAsync=0 offMin=0x1c2 offMax=0xa5f
[ 2870.671515] vboxdrv: TSC mode is Synchronous, tentative frequency 3000795689 Hz
[ 2870.671519] vboxdrv: Successfully loaded version 5.0.6_ (interface 0x00240000)
[ 2870.671946] VBoxNetFlt: Successfully started.
[ 2870.672227] VBoxNetAdp: Successfully started.

You also have an early access of RPMFusion packages for F23 or builds for F22 and F21 (is where I test the builds) check in :

Description: VirtualBox 5.0.12 in testings

Installation Instructions:

dnf copr enable sergiomb/vboxfor23

Thanks I tried all of this with no luck whatsoever. I could not get akmods to work, it just isnt ready yet. Eventually Oracle will get it working with the latest kernel. It performs well with its own kernel in the older kernel. I am just going to live with it. Later on down the road may do a fresh install and do all the YUM updates before even attempting, but I would rather just spend time enjoyinf Fedora as it is with all the stuff just as I love it. About the only thing I have left to do is reinstall VLC and then alter to have it autologin my user that I do not want to have to do each time.

what do you mean by "could not get akmods to work" ?

It works with kernel 4.2.2 so I gave up and changed my grub2 to just go back to using this kernel for now. If you look when going to Oracle the download clearly says it is for Fedora 22 and not Fedora 23. So you get that it will not update the kernel to run in Fedora 23. I do not know who to blame, and nobody else knows. I just know it is working in the older kernel and for now until I choose to mess with it, I will just run in that older kernel.

If you use grub-customizer tool, you can more easily configure Grub2 bootloader to block the newer kernel, and then you can re-install Oracle Virtualbox 5.0.4 then restart your system, and during boot you will see it show that it patched the kernel and then all is well.

Spent 4 hours in an attempt to get it to work with the latest kernel and constantly get the errors, despite many attempts to get DKMS to work and so on so on so on. Just too much for my little brain to handle.

Perhaps here in the forum there is a way to get it working.

DKMS has to be installed before you install VirtualBox. That should be all. In my personal opinion it is not the nicest way not to run the newest kernel just because the vbox kernel module is not compiled/loaded for that kernel.

Also, you currently working 4.2.2 kernel will not appear too much longer in grub. (Fedora keeps only 3 kernels by default and automatically removes older ones during updates).

I've tried everything as well. I've done it several times with different methods and nothing works when installing VirtualBox. All i get is the same error at the end. I think i'll just wait for an official release from oracle for fedora 23.

what error ? please post dmesg | grep -i vbox

VirtualBox 5.0 works in Fedora 23 using Oracle's repository (repo file here).

As mentioned here before by other users, just follow these instructions here:

Make sure you don't have virtualbox installed (at all) before you start. It is important to install dkms before you install VirtualBox, and you want to make sure that you install VirtualBox-5.0 from Oracle's repo, not from rpm (if you decide to go with Oracle's).
