I've came across several posts explaining how to reduce it for previous or different versions of gnome but none for fedora's 23 default gnome 3 setup, anyways, i edited the only likely css file that could be similar to the posts i've seen, gnome-classic.css, changing icon size values in the /* App Vault/Grid */ and then ALT+F2 restart, and nothing... anything else I can try?

Thanks

After lurking for hours i came across a post that explained that if you add enough icons it would make the favorites bar smaller, and it works.
