F16 freezes on boot

Hi! Every time I try to boot Fedora 16 I get this strange issue. It starts out normally, the Fedora loading graphics kicks in, loads to completion, but then the image of the text prompt comes back, with "Loading Fedora ... " and "Loading initial ramdisk", except in a new resolution, and there it just freezes. I think it's a video problem of some kind, because I'm pretty sure the login screen (which I am expecting at this point) is actually there somewhere behind all of it. I can restart the maching using ctrl+alt+del then enter, but my screen is completely frozen on the text terminal with the echoes from before. Do I make sense? My grub loading file looks like this (may be typos):

setparams 'Fedora [version]'

set gfxpayload=keep

insmod gzio

insmod part_msdos

insmod ext2

set root='(hd0,msdos3)'

search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root [code]

echo 'Loading Fedora [version]

linux /vmlinuz-[version] root=/dev/mapper/vg/kwanza-lvroot ro KEYTABLE=sv-latin1 quiet SYSFONT=atarcyrheb-sun16 rhgb rd.luks=0 LANG=enUS.UTF-8

echo 'Loading initial ramdisk ...'

initrd /initramfs-3.2.7-1.fc16.i686.img

Haven't messed with it or anything. Don't know if it's related to some specific upgrade since I rarely reboot my computer at all, and did it for another reason this time.

Does an older kernel work?
