I have one personal desktop and a personal laptop. My desktop is currently on FC20 and my laptop is on FC23. When I plug my android phone (One Plus 2) to FC20, the file system gets properly mounted and visible on nautilus. But when I try to do the same on FC23, it doesn't mount.

My laptop was initially on FC20 and I did dist upgrade from 20->21->22->23. I have done similar thing on another desktop (my official desktop) and it has the same issue of not automatically mounting the android filesystem. Both my laptop and the desktop have simple-mtpfs installed. So what exactly could be going wrong?

[SOLVED]

Turns out while upgrading my system from 20 to 23, certain packages weren't upgraded because of certain dependencies. I could not figure out exactly which packages were causing the problem, so instead I just did

sudo dnf upgrade --best --allowerasing

This forced upgrade of (almost) all packages to fc23. Once this was accomplished, the android filesystem began to automount as usual.

Upgrading Fedora can often be pretty risky, not to mention doing three upgrades in a row. You got guts.

Personally I would recommend (next time) copying your home directory to a different drive and doing a fresh install, copying back your home in it's entirety or just selectively copying back your configs (such as .mozilla for your Firefox profile).

It's quite possible that some major changes happened to config files in /etc, which dnf would avoid updating. You could also end up with random components missing from your install.

@MetaNova Right now, I am somewhat dependent on dnf because fresh installs are quite tiring. Besides if anything goes wrong with dnf upgrades, my previous versions are still alive, so my work doesn't get blocked. Although, at some point, when I have sufficient time, I will probably do a fresh install. :-)
