Dear all,

I am new to here.. I am planning to buy a laptop and install Fedora Security on it. I found HP STREAM 11 with DUAL CORE N2840, 2.16G.Hz (Celeron, i guess ), 2GB RAM, 32 GB SSD,Intel Graphics, HD LED 13inch screen... Is it suitable for LATEST fedora. This if development of IoT (Internet of Things) Security software.. for my office.562.87. Costs around 180 USD.

or alternative ,i thinkng ACER E5 -473G with 5th generation intel i5-5200U, 8GB RAM,1TB HDD, Nvida GT920M , 14 Inch HD LED screen.. It costs around $ 562.87 USD.

Please need you suggesting...Any other brand Suggestions also welcome. Thanks a lot.

Cheers! chandra

If it is for development, stay away from Celeron processors!

This question is actually too subjective to be answered here but if you are lucky nobody closes it, and you will get a lot of input. All depends on how much you want to spend! But if you want to spend the amount mentioned for the HP Stream 11 you better stay away from it an buy a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 for about the same amount (depending on where you are located, I assume). If you want to spend a b bit more, I am still recommending Thinkpad, i.e. the X220 is a great, powerful, and very portable laptop whose hardware is highly compatible with Fedora.

My advice is to get the second if money isn't an issue. More RAM, which will help in development, a bigger screen and it's not Celeron. And, if you don't need fancy 3D graphics, the nouveau drivers will be fine; if not, it's not that hard to get the drivers from rpmfusion installed and working.

Thanks all for advise. agree this question too subjective. Think Pad X201 seems a tablet. can not find that model here. I planning to Dell Inspiron 3000 series with i5 and 4GB - 500 GB harddisk.

Define "Cheap". You can get a cheap used netbook on ebay or some such, but then you spend all your time trying to get incompatible hardware working. Or you can purchase an inexpensive laptop with the minimal sepcs you need with Fedora pre-installed. You then have the hardware you need and everything works out of the box. In the long run, something like mintbox is likely best

I've had great luck with an older Dell Core 2 Duo model. The E4300. The sell for around ~$75.00 on e-bay.
