I have a piece of Java code that worked fine on Ubuntu Linux 12.04, but crashes gnome 3 on a vanilla Fedora 22 installation on a brand new computer.

When I press a specific button in the Java app, my screen goes black and I see the login screen. All my windows are gone. The sudo journalctl -n2000 shows this a few hundred times:

Oct 20 13:36:00 myDesktop2015 gnome-session[11444]: (gnome-shell:11707): Clutter-CRITICAL **: clutter_layout_manager_get_child_meta: assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_LAYOUT_MANAGER (manager)

and then this:

Oct 20 13:36:02 myDesktop2015 gnome-session[11444]: (gnome-settings-daemon:11675): Gdk-WARNING **: gnome-settings-daemon: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X

I'm pretty sure that's a defect in gnome-shell. You should file a bug report. You could try different versions of Java to possibility work around it: OpenJDK or Oracle JDK, version 7 or 8.

Thanks Bill. Note that I've given up on trying to file a bug report (difficult to figure out the right issue tracker URL and too difficult the right component to attribute it to, for a non-fedora programmer at least).
