When trying to install anything from a graphical interface that requires the root password, the authentication rejects my password. I know it's correct or else I wouldn't be able to log in. Neither the current user or the root password is accepted, it rejects all passwords, correct or not, with various passwords depending on the parent application.

I can install anything perfectly from the command line.

For example, installing an "untrusted" package from software, or trying to install anything from fedy both give the authentication dialog, and both reject all passwords.

This could be linked to the selinux/systemd bug :

Workaround : sudo systemctl daemon-reexec

Had the same problem yesterday after updating for 1st time. I opened a question here also, but when I restarted the problem was fixed.

if you added your user as administrator then you need to enter your user password not root.

Possibly, the "rejecting administrator password everywhere" problem is related to a pending update.

I had freshly installed Fedora 22, booted it, ran dnf update which had 859 MB of updates. I then plugged in an old SSD via USB to get old projects. But I couldn't satisfy the administrator password popup to mount the ext4 volume. I also tried installing some other packages (vlc, chrome) which also required root approval which I could not satisfy.

The solution was to reboot. Presumably this got all the update programs back in sync together.
